AFRICA/UGANDA- More commitment to respect minorities is necessary in African countries
Kampala (Agenzia Fides) - The Association in Defence of Human Rights Minority Rights Group (MRG) has urged African countries to intensify its commitment to respect the rights of minority groups. In the Report 2011 titled People’s Under Threat, recently launched in Nairobi, MRG says that 6 of the 10 countries where there is such a phenomenon are in Africa and they are: Somalia, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ethiopia, Nigeria and Ivory Coast, alongside Afghanistan, Iraq, Myanmar and Pakistan. These are the first 10 countries around the world where you experience the most serious cases of violation of minority rights. Côte d'Ivoire, Uganda, Guinea and Libya are the countries where cases of abuse arise more frequently in the African continent. MRG is a non-governmental organization committed to the rights of ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities and indigenous peoples around the world. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 16/05/2011)
