Kingston (Agenzia Fides) – On Sunday, May 22 the Sunday World Peace will be celebrated in Kingston, Jamaica. Christians are particularly invited on this occasion to be peacemakers in their communities, including the offices of the government, in the economic and environmental field. On this occasion, from May 17 to 25, the "Ecumenical Convocation Internacional por la Paz" (ECIP) has promoted an important event, organized by the World Council of Churches, which will be held at the University of the West Indies in Kingston , Jamaica. The theme will be "Glory to God and peace on earth ", with the aim of giving testimony of God's peace as a gift and responsibility of the Churches and the world. The ECIP marks the culmination of the program of the Decade to Overcome Violence (DOV), approved by the World Council of Churches at its Assembly in Harare in 1998, and started in 2001. The event will bring together thousands of participants from around the world on behalf of the World Council of Churches, ecumenical groups and civil society engaged in peace and justice, and agree in the need to create sustainable conditions for maintaining peace in the economic field , between peoples and cultures, communities and the earth.
