AFRICA/RWANDA - Aqueduct in operation for the 28,000 inhabitants in the district of Gicumbi

Gicumbi (Agenzia Fides) - Because of the topography of the area, the lack of hydrolic facilities capable of delivering water and the absence of water filtration systems, Rwanda is a country that has always encountered difficulties in supplying water. The problem in the Country is not the absence of so-called “blue gold”, but rather the distance between the water and houses and its lack of potability. To cope with this problem, three years ago the Movement for the Struggle Against World Hunger started work on the Gicumbi aqueduct, funded by the European Union. Today the buildings are completed and in operation. In two months the 28,000 residents of the district of Gicumbi will finally benefit from it. (AP) (3/3/2011 Agenzia Fides)
