Hong Kong (Fides Service) - A successful Seminar on “Spirituality, Religion and Health” which brought together doctors, psychologists, Buddhists, Taoists, Protestants and Catholics and priests and pastoral workers of the Church in Hong Kong, confirmed scientifically that religion and spirituality are good for people.
According to Hong Kong’s diocesan bulletin in Chinese Kong Ko Bao the Seminar considered the theme by comparing biological, psychological and spiritual elements. A conference given by psychologist Prof. Wang “From devotion to spiritual care” aroused much interest among those present.
Professor Wang began with the SARS epidemic last year. “SARS - he said - revealed deficiencies in the present healthcare system and technological apparatus. He demonstrated that “the dimensions of mercy and spirituality are an important part of the integral wellbeing of the person”. “Mercy is the basis of hospital pastoral. But of course, mercy alone is not enough: it must be accompanied with proper spiritual care and support”.
