Friday, 25 June 2004

Parana (Fides Service) - The aim of ‘Espíritu y Carisma’, magazine which marked its 25th anniversary on June 23, is to “help the world know, accept and love Jesus as the only Lord and Master and to be 'the sword of the Word of God, 'a lighted lamp' to illuminate the road" said Father Orlando Mattiassi, founder and editor of the Catholic magazine. Father Mattiassi is in charge of the Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in the Bajada Grande district of Parana, in the Argentinean Province of Entre Ríos.
The first issue of Espíritu y Carisma published on 23 June 1979 was the realisation of Father Mattiassi’s dream to bring people closer to the Word of God, Esteban Flesler, who works with Father Mattiassi told Fides. At first it was a two weekly bulletin produced by the priest himself in 500 copies. By January 1982 it had become a monthly magazine offering formation, information and testimony with a circulation of 1,000 copies.
In 1989, after the magazine’s format had been completely renewed and given to an outside printer, its circulation grew to 3,000 copies every month. It was at that time Espíritu y Carisma went digital with its own website www.carisma.com. The magazine is the oldest publication of Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Argentina. Its contents are varied: news, spirituality, Church life in Argentina, at the Holy See and around the world. On 23 June Father Orlando Mattiassi celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving for the 25 years of Espíritu y Carisma and on 26 June there will be a Mass presided by Archbishop of Parana, Archbishop Mario Luis Bautista Maulión who is President of the Argentinean Bishops’ Commission for Social Communications.
