ASIA/HONG KONG - The most solemn Eucharistic Procession in fifty years for the feast of Corpus Christi and Saint Anthony, patron saint of the parish.

Thursday, 24 June 2004

Hong Kong (Fides Service) - For the people of St Anthony’s parish in Hong Kong, June 13 was a very special day this year for four reasons: it was the feast of Corpus Christi, the feast-day of St Anthony, the 51st anniversary of the opening of the parish and the start of the parish year of evangelisation.
To celebrate the events special care was taken to organise the Corpus Christi procession, the most solemn in all 50 years of the parish’s existence. According to Kong Ko Bao, Hong Kong diocesan bulletin in Chinese, the statue of St Anthony was carried at the head of the Blessed Sacrament procession. Rev. Savio Hon, Salesian provincial Superior, presided the Mass and procession and gave the final benediction with the Blessed Sacrament. In his homily he encouraged the people to share their goods with one another, to pray for peace and stability in the world and to discover the true meaning of life. After the Mass under the guidance of Father Joseph Lee, parish priest parishioners formed seven groups and set out to carry the Gospel to all houses, singing hymns as they walked and distributing medals of St Anthony and invitations to come to meetings of first evangelisation.
