Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) – Work has begun on the construction of an analysis laboratory at the “Cité Guanella” of Plateaux de Batek. The Guanellian agricultural community, which is about 120 km from Kinshasa welcomes 20 young people for training courses and reintegration, has a primary school for over 210 children, and is important reference point for many villages. The structure, which is one of its kind in the area, has electricity thanks to solar panels and a generator in the Cité Guanella. "We are confident it will provide an invaluable opportunity for the population, which must travel to Kinshasa for any health problem without being able to rely on appropriate means of transport," read a note from Father Guido Matarrese, Superior and School Director. The new health service, together with that of the primary school, already active, is a further response to the practical needs of a population of several thousand people. The medical personnel who will service consists of three nurses (two men and a woman) from Kinshasa, which will alternate every 10 days, residing at Cité Guanella.
