Königstein (Fides Service) - With the help of Aid to the Church in Need, pontifical right aid agency, a new church was recently opened in the small town Beresniki, in the Ural Mountains in European Russia. The church dedicated to Our Lady Queen of Peace was consecrated by Catholic Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz of Mother of God diocese in Moscow, responsible for Catholics in European Russia, in the presence of many local people and about 150 pilgrims from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In fact the parish priest is German born Father Erich Maria Fink from Augsburg. In his homily Archbishop Kondrusiewicz thanked Father Fink for his work to assist street children in Beresniki. In a recent meeting with Archbishop Kondrusiewicz, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the Catholic Church for its commitment to assisting street children in Russia.
The German branch of ACN says that soon the new church will have its own Pastoral and Social Centre. It will be a meeting place for people of all religions and its main aim will be to offer assistance to the poor. ACN provided 50,000 Euro for the building of the church and adjacent centre.
