ASIA/HONG KONG - Combining sport with solidarity: city march to raise funds for evangelisation among prison inmates

Tuesday, 8 June 2004

Hong Kong (Fides Service) - “From the very beginning Christians have brought, along with the bred and the wine for the Eucharist, gifts to share with those in need. This custom of the collection, ever appropriate, is inspired by the example of Christ who became poor to make us rich ” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1351). Taking inspiration from this paragraph of the Catechism in the spirit of implementing the teaching of the Church, the Hong Kong diocese lay group for evangelisation among prison inmates recently organised a city march in aid of activity to assist detainees in prison.
Hong Kong diocesan bulletin Kong Ko Bao, reports that the diocesan chancellor Rev. Lawrence Lee, the group’s Spiritual Director, blessed the participants and the march was a great success in a spirit of serenity and brotherhood. Some 120 people took part and combined sport with solidarity. (Agenzia Fides 08/06/2004 Lines: 21 Words: 211)
