AFRICA/BURKINA FASO - “Caring for the sick helps me realise their agony and distress”, Camillian Missionary reports to Fides…

Ouagadougou (Fides Service) - “For some time now I have been working at the Centre for Care and Solidarity in Ouagadougou to replace a confrere away on a refresher course.
I came from the S. Camillo Medical Centre Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso, where I work in the dispensary and radiology department for adults. I must admit that the thought of leaving my work was worrying although I did my best to hide my anxiety.
Now that I am here at this newest Camillian endeavour, the Our Lady of Fatima Centre for Care and Solidarity I cannot thank the Lord enough for letting me savour the joy of being a Camillian Brother to the full.
Caring for sixty sick people every day helps me realise more deeply their agony and suffering and this urges me to strive with every means to alleviate the pain as far as possible, even only temporarily and to accompany them with love towards their death. This enables me to fulfil my calling as a religious and a nurse concretely living my vocation and specific charisma. More than giving I would underline that I receive and I receive much from children, young people, mothers, fathers: how many examples of dignified acceptance, how many tears of gratitude, how much confidence in the loving mercy of the one God. This is more than a reward for my self-giving, my concern, my fatigue.
Truly the Lord writes in between the lines of life and draws much good even from the most terrible evil! For this I will thank him ever more and I ask you all to join me in offering Him praise”. (Fr. GG) (8/6/2004 Agenzia Fides; Righe:26; Parole:290)
