Hong Kong (Fides Agency) - On May 1st, the day of St Joseph, the parish of St Joseph of FanLing in Hong Kong celebrated its 50th anniversary remembering its history and especially its first parish priest, the well known missionary Fr Ambrose Poletti. In the course of the event, the Bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong, H.E. Monsignor Joseph Zen, presided over a celebration together with the present parish priest, Fr Piero Zamuner, PIME missionary, and several other priests. On the occasion, seven young men and women received the Sacrament of Confirmation. In his homily, Monsignor Zen remembered the parish’s path and history: 50 years ago, in 1954, Fr Ambrose Poletti accepted the invitation of the Bishop, then Monsignor L. Bianchi, PIME, to become the guide of the new parish. As a support in his pastoral activity, in 1961 Fr Ambrose Poletti welcomed the sisters of the Congregation of the Precious Blood of Christ. The structure of the parish was renewed in 1997, with new halls for the parish youth groups. In 1999 the Church was enriched with a picture painted in the eastern tradition, titled “Jesus’ preaching in the temple”. (Fides Agency 3/6/2004 lines 19 words 185)
