Hong Kong (Fides Agency) - The Executive Secretary of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) Laypeople Committee, Mrs V. Saldhana, paid visit to Hong Kong and stressed the importance of the promotion of women in Asian society today. According to V. Saldhana “in the process of socialization, many Asian women have lost their independence and self-esteem, and have become victims of their families and of social violence, suffering in silence”. Today, she said, the Church has the duty of helping women to get rid of the traditional bonds of oriental culture: they should not be afraid; they should not be ashamed of denouncing the evil they are subject to in their families. The Church must listen to them and find place for them, helping them let their voice be heard. (Fides Agency 2/6/2004 lines 7 words 91)
