Rome (Fides Service) - The S. Egidio Community invites people in Rome to join them in prayers of thanksgiving for the 60th anniversary of the end of World War Two and the liberation of the capital from Nazi occupation by the Allied forces. An event to thank those who gave their lives with such generosity, British, American French, Polish, Italian soldiers and troops of many other nationalities who fought to remove the Nazi-Fascist dictatorship and restore freedom to Rome and a good part of Europe on the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the capital. During the Prayer Vigil there will be a commemoration of the victims of the dictatorship and the last stages of the war with brief testimony. Former Chief Rabbi of Rome, Elio Toaff, will give his testimony. The Prayer Vigil will be held in the Basilica di S. Maria in Trastevere, Thursday 3 June, starting at 6pm (S.L.)
