Sydney (Agenzia Fides) – The experiment carried out in the Year of St. Paul had a great success, far beyond expectations. This is why the Church in Australia has decided to continue exploring in the area of web conferences as a means of reaching out to the entire nation in addressing spiritual topics, through the use of the Internet. A statement sent to Agenzia Fides announces the second web conference that will take place this November, on the theme of Saint Luke. Archbishop John Bathersby, the Chairman of the Bishops Commission for Mission and Faith Formation, said the success of the St Paul eConference had demonstrated a thirst for this style of delivery for quality adult faith education. The Commission is working in collaboration with the Broken Bay Institute to organize and promote the web conference. “In the six weeks following the event, nearly 2500 new groups logged-on to watch in Australia alone, not to mention a further 200 groups from New Zealand; around 150 from the US; and 50 from Ireland, Canada and the UK,” said Dr. Goldman, Director of the Broken Bay Institute. He also added that of those who responded to the feedback form, more than 90 per cent agreed that all sessions of the eConference were informative and engaging and 96 per cent said they would participate in further eConferences.
Thus, the Australian Bishops' Conference has sponsored and promoted the new Saint Luke production and hope to organize more in the years to come. It seems that this way of communicating could become a great instrument of evangelization in Australia.
The event aims at showing how the modern communications technology, put to good use, can be a great resource in evangelizing. Thanks to the Internet and new technologies, the conference will be able to be followed by faithful all over the country. The conference will also be interactive and the audience will be able to ask questions, send in commentaries, etc. all with live coverage. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 25/09/2009)
