Rome (Fides Service) - Today 31 May 2004, the Missionaries of Mary, Xaverian Sisters, inaugurate their web site www.saveriane.it. “Today’s liturgical feast which recalls the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Visit to her cousin Saint Elisabeth proposes the icon which inspires our missionary family called, like Mary and with Mary, Maria, to go out to the world anxious to know the face of God the Father” says Sister Fernanda Tettamanzi in a note sent to Fides. “Our site presents our community, small, but anxious to live the great and precious gift of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus.” The site offers information on the identity, spirituality and origin and founders of the congregation, its presence in mission, witness and publications. The web master is a young Mexian Xaverian Gabriel Arroyo, who studied theology in Italy in Parma and will be ordained a priest at the end of the Summer in Mexico.
The Missionaries of Mary Maria, today about 250, were founded by Xaverian Father Giacomo Spagnolo and mother Celestina Bottego, with the charisma Blessed Guido Conforti and his Xaverian spirituality. They work in Brazil, Mexico, Cameroon, Chad, Democratic Congo, Japan, Thailand and have missionary and vocation houses in the Untied States and in Italy. (S.L.)
