EUROPE/ITALY - Internet to evangelise the world: 2nd meeting for Catholic net surfers

Friday, 28 May 2004

Rome (Fides Service) - TotusTuus Network is organising 29 and 30 May in Bologna the 2nd meeting for Catholic net surfers. “Internet does not function with hierarchical logic, it is based on the authority of a presence” David Botti, chief organiser of the event told Fides. “Rather than involving crowds of net surfers we aim to meet in person people who have become «reliable Catholic reference points on the web»”.
Meeting in person may seem a strange way to describe a means of communications which excludes human contact. Nevertheless people who evangelise through the web aim precisely for personal encounter. An encounter via the web should always lead to the meeting with the person because web contacts can never take the place of human contact, necessary for authentic evangelisation. As St Paul says, evangelisation depends on personal witness of the person sent to evangelise (cfr Rom 10, 14-15).
Catholic web surfers from all over Italy will converge on Bologna and probably some from other countries since the network’s portal in twinned with one of the most prestigious Spanish speaking portals Es.catholic.net, which in turn is connected with the Latin American RIALL.
