Thursday, 5 June 2003

Honiara (Fides Service) - A second Family Day 2003, was organised on 24 May, 2003, the feast of Mary Help of Christians, at Don Bosco Technical Indoor Hall. It was a day filled with fun and sharing, prayer and discussion, laughter and reflection. In welcoming the gathering at the start of the Family Day, Fr. Luciano Capelli sdb, Rector and Principal stated that we focus on the Holy Family and in a special way on Mary, the Mother of Christ. ‘Life without a Mother is meaningless’, he said, ‘and that was why Don Bosco gathered youngsters who had no home, no family, no hope, no dreams’. He thanked all present and congratulated the parents for the support they render to their sons and wards.
Representatives from the different classes shared their thoughts of being students at Don Bosco. Timothy Maeli happily stated that he realised his usefulness as a person with skills and talents. Jeff Kidoe compared himself to a piece of timber that has now got a beautiful shape. Fred Kii realised his need to change. Br. Paul Cheka op, stated that he learnt much from being in the care of Salesians and staff who love the boys. A shared lunch, games and a variety of items entertained persons. The programme was held in the newly constructed indoor games hall, whose structure still needs much work. It was initiated at the request of Fr. Capelli and commenced by the team of Italian Volunteers. Report sent in by Fr. Ambrose Pereira sdb PS (Fides Service 5/6/2003 EM lines 21 Words: 275)
