Gulu (Fides Service) - An Italian missionary, Comboni Father Luciano Fulvi, has been found dead in his room at Layibi mission in Gulu, northern Uganda. The priest was last seen going to bed at 9 yesterday evening, 30 March. His attackers were probably one or two. When Father Fulvi did not appear for Mass this morning, his confreres went to knock on the door of his room. Receiving no reply they opened the door and found the priest lying dead on the floor. For the moment there are no more details with regard to this serious episode. Father Fulvi was from Pescia diocese he was aged 76 and had been on mission in Uganda since 1990, after a previous mission there from 1956 to 1964. He was involved in vocation pastoral. Since 1989 Gulu has been the scene of fighting between the regular troops and the Lord Resistance Army LRA. In Gulu last year, 2003, three minor seminarians were killed when the LRA abducted a group of 37 boys; Comboni missionaries Father Mario Mantovani and Brother Godfrey Kiryowa were killed; and a diocesan priest, Father Lawrence Oyuru was also killed.
