AFRICA/KENYA - Rector of Saint Thomas Aquinas Interdiocesan Seminary in Langata, Archdiocese of Nairobi, appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect for the Congregation of the Evangelization of Peoples, on 14 September 2008, appointed Fr. Maurice Muhatia Makumba, of the clergy of the Diocese of Kakamega, Rector of Saint Thomas Aquinas Interdiocesan Seminary.
The new Rector was born on May 19, 1968 in Lirhanda (district of Kakamega), and was ordained a priest on October 15, 1994. After having attended Saint Mary's Major Seminary (1987), he studied philosophy at Saint Augustine Seminary in Mabanga (1988-89) and theology at Saint Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Nairobi (1990-93). He later studied Philosophy at the Pontifical University of the Santa Croce, in Rome, where he earned his Doctorate (1998-2002). Following his ordination, he ministered as follows: Vice-Pastor, Vice-Rector and teacher at Saint Peter Minor Seminary in Mukumu, Vice-Pastor in Italy during the Summer, Vice-Rector and Dean of Students at Saint Augustine Seminary in Mabanga, later serving as Rector at Saint Matthias Major Seminary in Mulumba and then at Saint Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary.
