Roma (Fides Service) - On learning of the terrorist attacks perpetrated on Thursday 11 March in Madrid the capital of Spain, the people of Latin America, bound to Spain with bonds of friendship, culture, tradition, language and history immediately expressed to the Spanish people their sympathy, their spiritual closeness and their firm condemnation of such acts of violence. A statement issued by the Council of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences, CELAM, says that these episodes of violence “are unfortunately becoming daily recurrences in our cities, with a tragic total of dead and injured persons”. The Bishops of Peru recall the bloody years of terror and violence which struck the people of Peru, and they say that these deplorable and unjustifiable facts violate the fundamental right to life and they attack the peaceful coexistence of peoples. The Bishops call for a crusade world wide to protect human life, to guide the world to have reciprocal respect and towards peace which is so necessary. (R.Z.)
