ASIA/SOUTH KOREA - Evangelising Korean society with an eye on North Korea and the rest of Asia : task for the Legion of Mary which is marking 50 anniversary in Korea

Seoul (Fides Service) - Fifty year ago the first Legion of Mary group was formed in the diocese of Cheongju. Today it has more than 5,000 members, priests and nuns and lay persons. To mark the anniversary there was a celebration at the beginning of March, during which the Legionaries renewed their commitment to evangelising the family with a life of service communion and missione and sharing.
The Legionaries reaffirmed their commitment to live the Gospel and to sanctify themselves and others “through prayer witnesses Jesus in all walks of life and to live like people reborn in the Spirit, beloved children of Mary ”.
The Bishop of Cheongju, Bishop Gabriel Chang Bong-hun, present at the celebration, praised and thanked the Legion of Mary for its work in the diocese and the benefits brought to the mission of evangelising and sanctifying the laity: “The mission of Legionaries in our day is to sanctify the family and proclaim the Gospel following the example of Mary who was faithful and obedient to the will of God”.
The Bishop urged the members of the Legion of Mary to dedicate themselves to evangelising the local community and keep a missionary eye also on North Korea and the rest of Asia.
