AFRICA/BENIN - Rector of the Theological Interdiocesan Seminary of the Diocese of Lokossa appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect for the Congregation of the Evangelization of Peoples, on September 19, 2008 appointed Fr. Hyacinthe Jerome Agbihounko, of the clergy of the Diocese of Abomey, Rector of the Monsignor Louis Parisot Theological Interdiocesan Seminary of the Diocese of Lokossa (Benin).
The new Rector was born on April 6, 1959 in Cove (Zou). After his studies at the “S.te Jeanne d’Arc” Minor Seminary in Ouidah (1974-75), “St. Joseph du Lac” Minor Seminary (1976-77), “St. Paul” Minor Seminary in Djime (1978-79), and “Our Lady of Fatima” Minor Seminary in Parakou (1980-1982), from 1982-1988 he attended the “St. Gall” Major Seminary. He was ordained a priest on November 19, 1988 in Cove. He then studied at the “Institut Catholique de l’Afrique de l’Ouest” in Abidjan (1992-1995), at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome (1995-1998), and the Pontifical Gregorian University (1998-2001). He earned a Licentiate and later a Doctorate in Theology in Biblical Studies and a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture. He has ministered as follows: professor at the “St. Paul” Minor Seminary in Djime and pastoral minister in Cana (1988-1992); national delegate of the Catholic Biblical Union (2004); professor at the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family (2003-2008); from 2001-2008 he has been professor of Sacred Scripture at “Monsignor Louis Parisot” Major Seminary (and at “St. Gall” since 2002) and Vice-Rector of the “Monsignor Louis Parisot” Major Seminary.
