AFRICA/TOGO - Rector of the Theological Interdiocesan Seminary of the Archdiocese of Lome appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect for the Congregation of the Evangelisation of Peoples, on September 13, 2008 appointed Fr. Godfroy K. Kouegan of the clergy of the Diocese of Aneho, Rector of the Theological Interdiocesan Seminary of the Archdiocese of Lome (Togo).
The new Rector was born on November 8, 1958 in Lome (Togo). After completing primary and secondary studies in Lome, in 1978 he entered the Monastery of the Ascension in Dzogbega, and made his solemn profession on September 7, 1985. After his theological studies in France, he was ordained a priest at the Monastery of the Ascension on October 12, 1991, where he served as Administrative Prior (beginning in July of the same year). In 1993, he went to Italy, where he attended the Institute for Liturgical Pastoral Ministry in Padua, earning a Licentiate in Theology, with a specialization in Liturgical Pastoral Ministry. In 1997, he left the Benedictine Order, to be incoporated into the Diocese of Aneho. In 2001, he earned a doctorate in Theology, also in Padua. During his stay in Italy, he served as parish vicar of two parishes (1996-2001) and later, in his native country, in July 2001, he served in the following ministries: Director of the Emmaus Catechetical Center in Afagnan; Secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Catechesis, of the CERAO; Professor of Liturgy at the Major Seminary “Jean Paul II”; national leader of the Commission for Catechesis and Liturgy; since June 2004, he has done pastoral ministry in the parish of “ Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours” in Afagnan, and since December 2004, he has served as the Bishop's Vicar for Religious Life.
