Rome (Fides Service) - In the past month 1,012 families have been reached by Caritas aid, in all 4,166 persons. Supplies distributed include rice, sugar, tea, canned food, dried milk and soap. According to the latest information from Caritas Italy a convoy with about 100.000 Euro worth of supplies reached Bam and Caritas is distributing aid to 303 families: 91 at Esfikan and 212 at Nartich.
With the local authorities Caritas is working to plan reconstruction. Caritas will help build 500 new homes for the most needy. It will also undertake complementary initiatives in the sectors of water supply and agriculture. A modest achievement in the face of official figures which speak of 43.200 dead, 49.000 homes destroyed -more than 50% in Bam - 90.000 injured 2000 orphans. “But for the families concerned - Father Vittorio Nozza, head of Caritas Italy told Fides - it means picking up the threads of daily life. And for Caritas it is confirmation of commitment and a modality of intervention which becomes accompaniment and sharing the road, beyond the emergency ”. (S.L.)
