Moscow (Fides Service) - This year 2004 the community of the Daughters of Saint Paul in Moscow is marking its 10th anniversary and to celebrate the event the Sisters have produced the first Russian language edition of the Catholic Liturgy of the Hours. The translation required three years of hard work under the guidance of Father Pierre Dumoulin rector of the Queen of the Apostles Catholic Seminary in San Petersburg and the help of experts in literature, liturgy and Sacred Scripture. The translators gave special attention to the rhythm of the psalms and hymns and accents to facilitate pronunciation.
This first edition of the complete Liturgy of the Hours in the Russian language has been long awaited by clergy and laity. The Breviary, printed in two colours on India paper with a vinyl cover, consists of two volumes each with about 1,900 pages: the Psalms and the Office of Readings. Printing is underway and the Books will be on sale for Easter.
The Daughters of Saint Paul book shop in Moscow, the only Catholic book shop in the entire Russian Federation, is frequented by Catholics, Orthodox Christians, other believers and non believers. The shop offers books and videos covering a wide variety of subjects: family life, education, spirituality, Sacred Scripture etc. In the near future the Sisters plan to open a web site aimed at promoting dialogue among Christians and with all people of good will in the vast Russian Federation which has a rich historical and spiritual heritage.
