ASIA/HOLY LAND – World Wide Web offers “Today’s Gospel” in Arabic, thanks to a team of volunteers in the Middle East

Jerusalem (Fides Service) – With the help of a team of volunteers in the Holy Land, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon the Gospel day by day with comments by the Fathers of the Church is now available to web users in Arabic. Today’s Gospel reading following the Ordo Missae can be found at www.alingilalyawmi.org (al-Ingil al-Yawmi is Arabic for today’s Gospel). The undertaking is co-ordinated Jesuit Father Ronney el Gemayel.
This service in Arabic is in addition to versions in English, French, German, Dutch, Italian and Portuguese, e-mailed to more than 60,000 addresses. The service is sent by e-mail free of charge. The organisers say this is a way to spread the Word of God using modern technology and to help people at work to stop and reflect a moment on the Gospel passage of the Day
Today’s Gospel international service is possible thanks to a team of lay Catholic volunteers who prepare the texts and whose only recompense is to know that the Gospel is spread around the world. The web site relies on funds from benefactors and users. The idea of Gospel on line started in France and was immediately supported by the Bishops’ Association for French-Speaking Liturgy, by Cardinal Gagnon and Archbishop Joseph Dore, Archbishop of Strasbourg.
