Friday, 18 July 2008

Tacuarembo (Agenzia Fides) – “With Jesus, Mission and Fullness of Life” will be the theme for the September 6-7 celebration of the 30th National Youth Day organized by the National Youth Ministry Committee of the Uruguayan Bishops’ Conference (CEU), in Ipora seaside resort, located about 7 kilometers from Tacuarembo (390 km from Montevideo).
Bishop Julio Bonino of Tacuarembo officially announced the event in a press statement, in which he also asked for community support of this great youth celebration, in which hosts will be needed to provide food and lodging for an expected 4,000 youth from the country’s 10 diocese.
The National Youth Days are celebrated in Uruguay on the first Sunday of September in each Diocese, and approximately every 3 years, one national encounter is held. The last national event of this kind was held in 2005, in the city of Melo. This year, as it is the 30th Day, the celebration will be held with even greater solemnity.
According to the scheduled program, on September 6, representatives from all over the country will arrive in Tacuarembo. There, they will be met by youth from the Diocese of Tacuarembo and escorted to the Ipora seaside resort. Camps will be set up in the area by the Diocese, and there will be a formal Welcoming Ceremony for the youth. A prayer will be recited as an inauguration for the event. Later, there will be a prayer vigil and bonfire. On Sunday, September 7, there will be time for prayer in the morning, with group workshops. At 12noon, there is a Closing Mass scheduled to take place, following the farewell to the representatives of the various dioceses and movements. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 18/07/2008)
