AMERICA/ECUADOR - Preparing for the Third American Missionary Congress CAM 3: relics of the Patroness of Missions on pilgrimage tour beginning June 23

Quito (Agenzia Fides) – The relics of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, Doctor of the Church and Universal Patroness of the Missions, will arrive in Guayaquil (Ecuador) on June 23 and will enter to form part of the preparatory activities for the celebration of the Third American Missionary Congress (CAM 3), which will take place in Quito (Ecuador) on August 12-17.
Among the objectives planned by the Organization Committee for CAM 3, in this visit of the saint’s relics are: to make her life and works known throughout Ecuador, to promote and form disciples with a missionary spirit, and foster devotion to her through the pilgrimage that will conclude August 12, in the Opening Mass and August 17, in the Closing Mass for the CAM 3.
The schedule for the pilgrimage tour of the relics of Saint Therese in Ecuador will go along with the theme for the Congress: “America with Christ Listens, Learns, and Announces,” and will be accompanied by the distribution of various informational and promotional materials on her gifts and virtue, her thoughts, and some interesting facts on her religious life.
The tour of the relics will begin in the Archdiocese of Guayaquil on June 23. The urn holding her relics will arrive at 6:30pm. Following the arrival ceremony at the “Jose Joaquin de Olmedo” Airport, there is a Vigil planned for all the faithful’s participation at the Church of “La Victoria.”
In addition, with the goal of promoting knowledge of Saint Therese’s life and the missionary formation of Ecuador’s Catholics, the Pontifical Missionary Societies have published various materials, among which are pamphlets on Saint Therese of the Child Jesus: Patroness of the Missions, various holy cards, posters, a missionary Rosary, and her autobiographical work, “The Story of a Soul.” (RG) (Agenzia Fides 9/6/2008)
