Rome (Fides Service)- Belgian born Bishop Joseph Hubertus Soudant, s.c.i, in charge of the Catholic diocese of Palembang (Indonesia) between1963 to 1997, died on 29 December 2003 in hospital in Lanaken, Belgium. Palembang diocese was raised to the rank of archdiocese in 2003. In a telegramme of condolence addressed to Archbishop Aloysius Sudarso, s.c.i Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples and Archbishop Robert Sarah, Secretary of the Congregation, express “grief and deepest sympathy on behalf of the entire Missionary Congregation to you and to the Catholic community in Palembang at the death of Bishop Joseph Hubertus Soudant, s.c.i, and we entrust his soul to our heavenly Father ”.
