VATICAN - 6 JANUARY 2004 MISSIONARY CHILDHOOD DAY FIDES DOSSIER:INFANCY BETRAYED, ABUSED, HUMILIATED ALL OVER THE WORLD

Monday, 5 January 2004

Vatican City (Fides Service) – January 6th is World Day of Missionary Childhood for the Catholic Church. In local Churches on every continent children will take part in special initiatives organised by the local Pontifical Mission Societies offices during this week. Missionary Childhood Day is the culminating point of a path of formation animated by missionary activity towards those who are geographically distant but close in the spirit of initiatives which are realised with the collection of savings and offerings. “Children Helping Children” is the slogan which the Pontifical Society for Missionary Childhood makes resound in every country in the world, declining it in the thousands of forms which the imagination of children and their animators transforms in projects of solidarity.
On the occasion of Missionary Childhood Day Fides proposes a Dossier for its readers on childhood, suffocated, humiliated, abused: for millions of children all over this world this is a sad reality which we tell in figures and sad stories. Pope John Paul II, has always been the most tenacious supporter of the rights of minors, in all fields, from the school to the family, from health to respect for the dignity of the person.
