AMERICA/PERU - THE CHALLENGES OF PACEM IN TERRIS FOR A GLOBALISED WORLD : 7TH SOCIAL WEEK ORGANISED BY BISHOPS CONFERENCE

Lima (Agenzia Fides) – The 7th Social Week organised by Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Peru will take place from 9 to 12 December 2003, at the Collegio De Jesús, Pueblo Libre, Lima, with the theme “The Challenges of Pacem in Terris for a Globalised World”.
Speakers will include Cardinal Renato Raffaele Martino, President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace; Bishop Luis Augusto Castro Quiroga of Tunja, Colombia and Vice-President of the Colombian Bishops’ Conference; Bishop Norberto Strotmann of Chosica, Peru; Bishop. Pedro Barreto of Jaen, Peru and Vice-President of the Peruvian Bishops’ Commission for Social Action.
In the light of the “Pacem in terris” encyclical by Blessed John XXIII, on the 40th anniversary of its publication the Social Week will focus on the four pillars of peace indicated by the Pope: Freedom, Truth, Justice and Love: “The Pillar of Freedom: Democracy and the Common Good”; “The Pillar of Truth: Dialogue and Transparency”; “The Pillar of Justice: Human Rights” and “The Pillar of Love Solidarity: Reconciliation”.
