Vatican City (Fides Service) – Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples has appointed (14 November 2003), Rector of St Francis Xavier Major Seminary in Lahore in Pakistan, Reverend Father. Ranjit Abeysinghe S.J. The new Rector was born on 18 October 1945 and ordained a priest on 4 May 1991. He studied philosophy at Jhana Deepa Vidyaapeeth in Pune and theology in Delhi (Vidyajyoti). He has since been: Jesuit Vocation Promoter and Pre-Novitiate Director, Sri Lankan Jesuit province; he has engaged in pastoral work recruitment screening in Nigeria and The Gambia, New York and Maryland Jesuit Provinces, Retreat Direction/Preaching and Counselling.
