AMERICA/ARGENTINA - 6.000 ATTEND NATIONAL YOUTH LEADERS' MEETING WHICH CLOSES WITH SENDING OF MISSIONARIES

Saturday, 29 November 2003

Gualeguaychú (Fides Service) – “Respond to the challenges posed to youth pastoral by the new times, renewing with youth leaders the commitment to build a civilisation of love”: this was one of the main objectives of the 3rd national three day meeting for youth pastoral leaders with the slogan “We are not afraid … with Christ we have hope” held from 28 to 30 November, at Gualeguaychú (Province Entre Ríos-Argentina).
More than 6.000 youth leaders from all over the country are reflecting on new challenges facing youth and how to respond in the light of the Gospel. They will also share experience of pastoral work and identify ways to respond to the challenges. They will also reflect on situations of poverty, suffering and exclusion lived by many Argentineans in a critical light and with a desire to change the present situation.
Besides serious reflection and discussion the programme will also include cultural activities: folklore displays, videos, theatre. On the final day, Sunday 30 November the 6,000 delegates will stage a march through the streets to a large open space at the Port of Gualeguaychú, where there will be a solemn Mass with the sending of missionaries.
