The Assembly opened with a Mass celebrated by Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Primate of Argentina, and President of the Bishops’ Conference. Among the themes that the Bishops will address over the course of these days, are: a pastoral exchange on the situation of the country and the Church; and the movement of people, especially in terms of migration, refugees, and the problem of tourism. The latter theme will be presented by the Bishops’ Committee on Migration and Tourism, led by Bishop Ruben Frassia of Avellanada-Lanus. The bishops will also discuss the Aparecida Document and missionary activity in light of the Great Continental Mission.
