AMERICA/MEXICO - Bishops’ Plenary Assembly begins today, to more deeply understand and assimilate the New Evangelization according to the spirit of Aparecida

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - The Mexican Bishops (CEM) will be holding their 85th Plenary Assembly from March 31 to April 4 at their headquarters in Cuautitlan (Mexico). The focus for the Assembly is “To deeply understand and assimilate the New Evangelization with the challenges and situations of the country, in the spirit of Aparecida in order to foster a Church of apostles and missionaries in Mexico.”
The Assembly will begin with an opening Mass in the National Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and will be presided by Bishop Carlos Aguiar Retes of Texcoco and President of the Mexican Bishops’ Conference. During the Mass, the Bishops will commemorate the third anniversary of the pontificate of His Holiness Benedict XVI, which will be celebrated on April 19.
The invitation to participate in the Plenary Assembly is extended to all the members of the Mexican Bishops’ Conference (18 Archbishops and 140 Bishops). The organizers of the 85th Plenary Assembly are Archbishop José Luis Chávez Botello of Antequera-Oaxaca and Speaker of the Presidential Council of the CEM, who will serve as coodinators of the workshops for April 1; Bishop Benjamín Castillo Plascencia of Tabasco, who will serve as coordinator of the workshops on April 2; and Bishop Jonás Guerrero Corona, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Mexico City, who will coordinate the workshops on April 4.
