ASIA/SOUTH KOREA - KOREAN RELIGIOUS PROMISE GREATER COMMITMENT TO MISSION AD GENTES IN ASIA AND AFRICA

Tuesday, 25 November 2003

Seoul (Fides Service) – Religious in South Korea have vowed to increase their commitment for missionary activity. This fact emerged from a recent General Assembly of Superiors Major of Religious Institutes and Societies of Apostolic Life held in Yeoju, presided by Bishop Paul Oh of the Order of Friars Minor.
The Assembly which engaged in prayer and discussion from 11 to 13 November, issued guidelines for religious life in Korea: increase resources for missione ad gentes; give greater impulse to awareness creating initiatives on missionary themes; develop more intense programmes for World Mission Sunday and missionary pilgrimages.
The participants said they would like to see more collaboration between religious institutes and they decided to hold formation seminars and to give special attention to communities of immigrants to help them frequent the Sacraments in their native languages
The Assembly agreed that the universal Church expects much of the Church in Korea for mission in China, in the rest of Asia and in Africa.
