Tuesday, 25 November 2003

Guatemala (Fides Service) – “As soon as we arrived we felt the atmosphere of festivity. Along with delegations from all over the world, especially from all over America, we were welcomed by enthusiastic young missionaries” Father Victor Livori diocesan director of Pontifical Mission Societies in Arequipa diocese in Peru, told Fides, only hours before the opening of 2nd American Mission Congress. About 3.200 delegates have arrived from all over the world.
“The warmth and enthusiasm of the local people is the most welcome impression: the hosts have really worked hard for the organisation.” After registration missionaries and delegates will meet the hosting families where they will be staying for the week. At 2pm local time the procession with the Holy Images of Santo Cristo d’Esquipulas and Our Lady will begin to move towards the John Paul II Auditorium Guadalupe. During the missionary year in Central America these images toured dioceses in every country. At 3pm CAM2 will be officially opened with an address of welcome to the Papal Legate and the reading of Pope John Paul II’s message to the Congress.
“Important is also support by various media with live coverage of Congress events, Father Victor Livori reported -. Final touches are being made for the outdoor Mass presided by Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, the Pope’s special envoy to CAM2.”
