AMERICA/ARGENTINA - “We are all part of the Church; it’s time to share”: Lenten Campaign in support of evangelisation.

Friday, 8 February 2008

Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - “We are all part of the Church; it’s time to share” is the theme of the Campaign in support of the Church, sponsored by the Episcopal Conference of Argentina for its fourth consecutive year, this Lent 2008.
The main objective for the Campaign is to increase the awareness of every Catholic in his personal responsibility of participating in the task of evangelisation and to inform the faithful as to how the Catholic Church actually sustains herself. Although each diocese and parish has a different situation, “we all share in the need to inform and educate the people of God in these areas,” reads the opening statement given by Archbishop of Mendoza and President of the Episcopal Conference’s Council for Economic Affairs, Archbishop Jose Maria Arancibia.
The Campaign is nation-wide and is meant to be adapted to the concrete situation found in each locality. The general collection will take place on the 4th Sunday of Lent (March 1-2), in addition to other collections organised in each local diocese.
In their Letter to the faithful, the Bishops of Argentina encourage all to participate in the Campaign and make reference to their pastoral letter on supporting the Church, issued 10 years ago, and entitled: “Sharing the multiform grace of God.” “Since then, we have been working intensely and with great hope, so that the baptised may live out this responsibility to share in the work of sustaining the Church family that we all form and that wants to be present and accompany you in every moment of your life.” They also express their gratitude for the generosity and effort of each member of the faithful, encouraging them “to continue helping out in your community that has so many needs, placing your gifts and material goods at the service of evangelisation.” (RG) (Agenzia Fide 8/2/2008 righe 22, parole 302)
