ASIA/IRAQ - ITALIAN TROOPS KILLED: IRAQI CHRISTIANS VOICE SYMPATHY TO ITALY THROUGH FATHER NIZAR SEMAAN

Rome (Fides Service)- “We firmly condemn the attack on Italian troops on a peacekeeping mission in Iraq” Catholic priest Father Nizar Semaan of Ninive tells Fides expressing sympathy with Italy of all the Christians in Iraq. “We are close to the families of the victims engaged with professional ability to help the people of Iraq to rise up after years of war ” says Father Nizar. “We wish to voice appreciation for what Italy is doing to restore peace in Iraq. I would recall the decision of the Italian branch of the Red Cross which has chosen to remain when other international organisations have withdrawn their staff” Fr Nizar concludes.
