AMERICA/ DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - “From the Dominican Republic we want the Pope to know he can count on us”

Friday, 18 January 2008

Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) - "As the national Co-ordinator of Youth pastoral in the Domincan Republic and Director of Radio Juventus Don Bosco, I join testimonies of affection and solidarity with Pope Benedict XVI after the events which forced the Holy Father to cancel his visit to La Sapienza University, Fr. Luis Rosario Peña told Fides.
“I have known Pope Benedict XVI since the early 1970s when he was Dean of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Regensburg where I studied theology and I witnesses his goodness, attitude of understanding and sense of tolerance which makes all the more unjust this dishonourable fact in the 21st century, improper to a democratic conscience. I am sure the only response of the Holy Father is to pray as Jesus taught us for those persons. In addition to the martyrdom of blood suffered by Christians in the past, we have this moral martyrdom, which instead of discrediting Benedict XVI, as the authors intended, increase his greatness and capacity of resistance in the faith. From the Dominican Republic we want the Pope to know he can count on us and may the Lord bless him abundantly". (RG) (Agenzia Fides 18/1/2008; righe 14, parole 202)
