For more informationQuebec (Agenzia Fides) - On 6 January Cardinal Marc Ouellet, Archbishop of Quebec and Mgr Jean Picher, secretary general 49th International Eucharistic Congress (IEC2008), gave an official presentation of the Cardinal Marc Ouellet Foundation social initiative to help people in need.
The Foundation, closely connected with the 49th International Eucharistic Congress to be hosted by Quebec (Canada) in June, will assist organisations which work to foster integration of immigrants and refugees in the region of Quebec. For the occasion Cardinal Ouellet will donate a sum of 10,000 $ and he has asked people to give generously to the cause.
“Very often when immigrants arrive in a new country they face many difficulties” we read in a statement sent to Fides. “Isolation, poverty and difficulties are their daily plight. Your donations will help build a society of love and peace and foster the integration of people from all over the world”.
The International Eucharistic Congress will be held 15 to 22 June 2008 on the theme “The Eucharist, a gift of God for the life of the world”. Daily themes for reflection are the following: The Eucharist, Gift of God Par Excellence; The Eucharist, Memorial of the Paschal Mystery; The Eucharist Builds up the Church, the Sacrament of Salvation; The Eucharist, the Life of Christ in our Lives; The Eucharist and Missions; Witnesses to the Eucharist in the Midst of the World; Conclusion of the 49th IEC in Quebec City.
