EUROPE/ITALY - NOVEMBER 7 IN MILAN: SPECIAL PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING ON THE 14TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL

Rome (Fides Service) – In the cycle of Monthly Prayer Meetings organised by the Church in Need, on Friday 7 November in Milan there will be a special prayer thanksgiving on the 14th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Prayer Meeting will be held at 9pm at the S. Maria Assunta church in Piazza dell’Assunta. Present for the occasion a Polish priest Rev. Piotr Zaborski from the archdiocese of Czestochowa. One of the organisers is the Aid to the Church in Need founded in 1947 the late Father Werenfried van Straaten to assist the “Church of Silence” persecuted by communist regimes in Eastern Europe. Among the most significant of numerous Catholic initiatives, many clandestine, supported by ACN on the eastern side of the Berlin Wall the historical building of Nowa Huta Cathedral in Poland which stands as a symbol of a national Church which resisted communist persecution. Other promoters of this Prayer Meeting include the Milanese parishes of Our Lady of Fatima and Saint Pius X, Christian Russia, Cattolica Alliance, Il Timone, the Angelo Ramazzotti Missionary Centre (PIME) the Cultural Centre Camporicco Cassina de’ Pecchi.
