ASIA/PHILIPPINES - Two bishops and a priest safe and sound after attempted kidnapping at a Manila hotel

Manila (Agenzia Fides) - At attempted kidnapping at a hotel at financial heart of Manila staged by a group of soldiers calling for the resignation of President Gloria Arroyo, ended without bloodshed. The kidnapping was thwarted by the intervention of a special army unit. Among the hotel guests were two Catholic bishops and a priest, Bishop Julio Xavier Labayen, Bishop Antonio Tobias and Fr. Robert Reyes, sources at the Nunciature in Manila told Fides that the three were unharmed and returned safe and sound.
