AMERICA/VENEZUELA - The Church launches annual 'Support your Church 2007' Campaign to help provide assistance for the needy: a call to share talents, time and economic offerings

Thursday, 22 November 2007

Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - As part of the national plan of ecclesial solidarity and communion, the Catholic Church in Venezuela has lunched its annual 'Support your Church 2007' Campaign of which the theme this year is "God loves those who give with joy " (cfr 2 Cor 9,7). The campaign aims to increase awareness among Catholics of their responsibility for the Church's activity of evangelisation, mission and pastoral and social care. "We feel and we are a community of faith, a people of God and we keep alive the task of evangelisation left to us by Jesus, the Lord, in our country" the Bishops' Conference says in a statement sent to Fides.
Tin the statement the Bishops appeal to the faithful to support the Church "sharing 'talents and charisma' received from the Father", giving their time "we can all to something for the good of the community" and sharing “treasure”, that is "offerings in money, even small offerings which help programmes of evangelisation". This is the objective of the campaign: "Share Talent, Time and Treasure".
The Campaign begins 24 and 25 November and will close on Sunday 2 December, 1st Sunday of Advent . This is will be a "Week of Solidarity with our Church", with special collections in parishes all over the country. The Bishops' Conference has organised various ways of making donations. "The Church in Venezuela relies on your help to continue her activities. It is our responsibility as Catholics to support this enormous work of social assistance for those most in need" said the Bishops' Conference statement.
