Friday, 16 November 2007

Quito (Agenzia Fides) - Fr Cirillo Tescaroli, Italian Comboni missionary and tireless evangeliser through press, radio and television, who dedicated his life to proclaiming the Good News through the media, died on 30 September at the age of 84 (see Fides 2/10/2007). “His funeral was broadcast live by the same Catholic Radio which he directed for 26 years. Messages of sympathy from bishops, priests, religious and lay Catholics all over Ecuador, continue to arrive at the Comboni House” Comboni provincial Superior Fr. Bruno Bordonali, who worked with Fr Tescaroli, writes in a letter to Fides. “His leaves a great legacy to our Congregation and an important archive of his many radio programmes and more than 200 books written to spread the Gospel and love for the missions. To give just one example: today 25% of Radio Cattolica weekly broadcasts are programmes produced by Fr Cirillo” Fr Bordonali told Fides.
In memory of the tireless work of their confrere to evangelise via the Media, the Comboni missionaries are launching an initiative of a study grant for an Ecuadorian seminarian, so that the missionary work started and carried forward for many years by Fr Cirillo, may continue. People wishing to offer a donation should contact the Comboni missionary Procura in Verona, with regard to the “Borsa di studio per un seminarista ecuadoriano in ricordo del p. Cirillo Tescaroli” (ccp 10740371). (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 16/11/2007, righe 18, parole 254)
