AMERICA/CHILE - Bishops' Conference convokes Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, on 18 November calling for special prayers for peace in the Holy Land

Santiago de Chile (Agenzia Fides) - In answer to a call from the Catholic charity organisation Aid to the Church in Need ACN, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Chile has convoked a Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church on 18 November and for special prayers to be said at Masses all over the country for Christians persecuted because of their faith.
The ACN office in Chile invited Auxiliary Bishop Kamal-Hanna Batish, and vicar general emeritus of the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalemm to preside this Day of Prayer. The purpose is to inform people of the difficulties experienced by Christians in the Holy Land and to build a chain of prayer and material help to assist them. While in Chile, Bishop Batish will take part in a meeting to promote solidarity with Christians in the Holy Land, He will give a conference at the University of Chile and have talks with the Bishops of Chile, and other representatives of the Church in Chile and the government. On Sunday 18 November he will preside Mass for this nation wide Day of Prayer which will include special prayers for persecuted Christians.
