Guatemala City (Fides Service) – “As in the Upper Room in Jerusalem, with Mary let us implore the gift of the Holy Spirit for the American Mission Congress”. This is the call issued by the central organising committee of the 2nd American Mission Congress inviting Guatemalans to take part in a national Prayer Novena that “the Congress may be founded on prayer, so that the work, now at the final stage, will be enlightened by the Holy Spirit. ”
Catholics all over the country are invited to join the national novena from 14 to 22 November to pray for a fruitful Congress which will take place in Guatemala City 25 to 30 November. The initiative is addressed to all the forces of the Church in Guatemala: bishops clergy, diocesan mission delegates, diocesan directors of Pontifical Mission Societies, lay movements and Catholics in general. Dioceses and parishes are encouraged to organise various times and occasion for prayer (Holy Hour adoration, family prayers, parish prayers etc).
The members of CAM 2 Organising Committee and their co-workers. aware that “the best way to help the thousands of participants is prayer on our knees before the Lord”, will meet every day at 6am to ask the Lord for his assistance and guidance to carry out their task in the best possible manner.
The Shrine of Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in Guatemala diocese has organised special masses and liturgies three times a day 6am, noon and 6pm).
To foster participation in the prayer crusade the organising committee distributed prayer leaflets bearing the images of the Blessed Sacrament, the Holy Spirit, Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Black Christ of Esquipulas and Saint Pedro Betancur. The purpose of the leaflet is to accompany CAM 2 and the celebration of Mission Holy Year being celebrated in Central America, and to indicate the aim of the Novena: obtain through prayer the gift of the Holy Spirit for CAM 2 that He alone may illuminate and guide the activity and decisions of the Congress.
