VATICAN - NATIONAL DIRECTOR OF PONTIFICAL MISSION SOCIETIES IN SPAIN BISHOP PEREZ GONZALEZ APPOINTED MILITARY ORDINARY

Vatican City (Fides Service ) – The Holy Father, Pope John Paul II has appointed, today 30 October 2003, Military Ordinary in Spain, Bishop Francisco Pérez González until now Bishop Osma-Soria. The Bishop is a member of the Bishops’ Commission for Mission and Cooperation among Churches and since 12 February 2001 he has been national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies a responsibility which he intends to maintain. Bishop Francisco Pérez González was born at Frandovínez, Archdiocese of Burgos, on 13 January 1947. He studied for the priesthood at Burgos Seminary and then at the Pontifical St Thomas Aquinas university in Rome where he obtained a licentiate in Theology. He was ordained a priest on July 21 1973. After ministering as assistant parish priest in Burgos he moved to Madrid where he held various pastoral responsibilities including spiritual formator and director at the major seminary. On 16 December 1995, he was appointed Bishop Osma-Soria and was ordained a Bishop of 6 January 1996. (S.L.) (Fides Service 30/10/2003; lines 12; words 162)
