EUROPE/GERMANY - Pontifical Mission Societies close Missionary Month with a concelebration of the Eucharist, some guests from mission territories

Eichstätt (Agenzia Fides) - With a solemn concelebration of Mass in Eichstätt Cathedral , the Pontifical Mission Societies Germany - missio - will conclude on Sunday 28 October the Month of Mission. With the motto “Go out to the whole world and preach the Gospel”, the Pontifical Mission Societies aimed to increase among Catholics mission awareness and knowledge of the challenges to mission today: “Mission in a way is globalisation of the Good News and the value and dignity of every human person. Mission is giving and receiving, encounter and dialogue” the presidents of mission, Fr. Hermann Schalück (OFM) and Fr. Eric Englert (OSA) underline. In this the 175th anniversary of the National PMS office in Aachen, during the whole of October, the PMS have illustrated with hundreds of initiatives all over the country the theme of universal mission.
Participants at the closing Conclebration of the Eucharist in Eichstätt Cathedral will include special visitors from mission territories: Archbishop Simon Ntamwana of Gitega (Burundi), who works to promote reconciliation in his country after the civil war; Bishop Louis Sako of Kerkuk of the Chaldean Catholics, representative of the Christian minority in Iraq; Bishop Wenceslao Padilla, Prefect apostolic of Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), who guides the local 410 Catholics, the smallest Catholic community in the world; and other guests from various parts of the universal Church. The Liturgy will be animated by the Mashi-Singers from South Africa who will enhance the celebration with African liturgical hymns.
Missio is present in over 100 countries Africa, Asia and Oceania, supporting above all programmes for the formation of pastoral workers. With more than 2,700 projects the Pontifical Mission Societies provide building material for infrastructures where the faithful may meet and share their faith.
