ASIA/PHILIPPINES - The Salesian world boosts its presence in information and communications from Asia: commitment of ANS news service

Cebu (Agenzia Fides) - Boost service of information and communication in order to intensify communion within the Salesian world on one hand, and open ever wider and render visible the charisma of don Bosco in the universal Church and all over the world, on the other: with these finalities the Salesians are promoting formation of media operators and for correspondents ANS an ever more updated and prompt tool of information which ahs cut itself a place in the ambit of Catholic information at the planetary level.
The latest of these initiatives concerns, specifically, information from Asia and Oceania: this is why a meeting for formation of ANS correspondents and delegates for Social Communications of Asia and Oceania is held in the Philippines.
This is the third such appointment (after those in Rome and Tlazala), which aims to strengthen the network of the agency's correspondents and collaborators which in the past year has undertaken a process of updating and qualification.
The Conference in Cebu is attended by 27 persons Salesians and lay people from different countries of Asia and Oceania. The meeting is coordinated by Rev Fidel Orendain, delegate for Social Communications of the Ispettoria of Southern Philippines and Rev Julian Fox, secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications in the Vatican and coordinator of the Council's web site.
The conference was opened by Rev Arthur Sanchez, from the southern Philippines who presented the social and pastoral activity of the Salesians in this part of the world. Rev Tarcisio Scaramussa, Social Communications counsellor offered a summary on the policies for communications and information during the past 6 years. Rev Donato Lacedonio illustrated the reality of ANS agency and the work of revision and renewal undertaken in the past 12 months. Information services were presented on the two regions, Australasia for the region Asia East-Oceania and Bosco Information Service for South Asia.
After a day dedicated to the knowledge and sharing of experience there will be days of formation mainly in the theme of with emphasis on digital journalism, with input from experts and professional media operators. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 19/10/2007 righe 26 parole 267)
